Bodegas Faustino, one of Rioja’s most iconic wineries and a global benchmark in the production and sales of Gran Reserva wines, has been named winner of the 2026 Best Of Wine Tourism Awards in the category of Architecture & Landscape for its new and innovative wine tourism project, Legado Bodegas Faustino, designed in collaboration with Foster & Partners.

The award was presented yesterday, October 8, during a ceremony held at Bodegas Bilbaínas (Haro), as part of the international network of Great Wine Capitals. The distinction in Architecture & Landscape—one of the competition’s most prestigious categories—highlights Bodegas Faustino’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and the creation of a truly unique visitor experience.

A New Wine Tourism Landmark in Rioja

Located in Oyón, Rioja Alavesa, Legado Bodegas Faustino is the most ambitious wine tourism project ever undertaken by Familia Martínez Zabala. At its heart is the new Planeta 1.0 building, designed by the world-renowned architectural firm Foster & Partners, which stands out for its sustainable design: the carbon emissions it produces are offset by its green, earth-covered roof. In addition, it is “energy plus,” capable of generating more energy than it consumes. The surplus powers the rest of the winery facilities, making the entire complex fully energy self-sufficient.

Legado Bodegas Faustino has been conceived to offer visitors a complete, accessible, and unforgettable experience. Highlights include guided tours, vertical tastings, sensory challenges, and exclusive activities such as concerts. The site also features a wine bar open daily to the public, with or without prior booking. To round out the offer, a unique gastronomic experience has been created in collaboration with Mahercooks, pairing carefully crafted dishes with Faustino wines. Together, these experiences establish Bodegas Faustino as a must-visit destination for wine, architecture, and gastronomy enthusiasts alike.

The venue is also designed to host corporate events, conferences, special gatherings, and tailored activities, thanks to its versatile indoor and outdoor spaces specifically created for this purpose. This flexibility underscores Bodegas Faustino’s ability to deliver bespoke, exclusive experiences.

The award was granted by a jury of experts in tourism, gastronomy, media, education, and oenology, recognizing Bodegas Faustino as one of today’s global leaders in wine tourism. With this distinction, the winery will now compete for the International Best Of Wine Tourism Award against winners from the other ten member cities of the Great Wine Capitals network.

For the second consecutive year, a Familia Martínez Zabala winery has received this prestigious accolade. In 2024, Bodegas Campillo (Laguardia) was recognized in the Art & Culture category. This new award is a testament to the family’s ongoing dedication, passion, and commitment to innovation in wine tourism, reaffirming its ability to inspire and delight visitors while sharing the story of a family with more than 160 years of winemaking legacy.
