FAUSTINO ICON 2017 is the only Rioja featured in the TOP 20 of the prestigious American Wine Enthusiast list

Faustino Icon 2017 ranks 17th in the list of the top 100 wines in the world, described by wine critic and writer Mike DeSimone as a “Magnificent, a great achievement”.

Faustino Icon Gran Reserva 2017 is part of the Martínez Zabala Gallery collection. It is made from selected grapes from the best vineyards in Rioja Alavesa, Tempranillo and Graciano, coming from two small plots planted 65 years ago in Oyón. A manual harvest where a first selection of the grapes is made, a second at the sorting table already in the winery itself, and a careful unique vinification with more than 24 months in American and French oak barrels produce this limited edition of 24,651 numbered bottles.

Wine Enthusiast features a list that spans wines from around the world, challenging conventional notions of what is collectible. According to the prestigious American magazine this year they have tasted a collection of wines that “have surprised us this year for their extraordinary quality and potential. Unexpected wines that are rewriting the rules and expanding the boundaries of what is worthy of a cellar”. All tastings are conducted blind.

FAUSTINO ICON GRAN RESERVA 2017 holds the number 17 spot, and is the only Rioja in this global Top. Wine expert Mike DeSimone has highlighted the great aging potential of this wine.

Legacy of Bodegas Faustino

On October 31st, ‘Legacy of Bodegas Faustino’, the first enotouristic project Planet 1.0. of the fourth generation of the Martínez Zabala Family designed along with Foster & Partners opened its doors to the public.

This new project, located at Bodegas Faustino, encompasses a universe of wine, nature, architecture, culture, and sustainability, in a unique setting that connects all spaces with the vineyards.

In addition to touring its cellar with more than 60,000 barrels and around nine million bottles, and learning about its more than 160 years of experience in the crafting and aging of high-end wines, ‘Legacy of Bodegas Faustino’ offers visitors multiple experiences such as tastings of exclusive and unique wines from the Martínez Zabala Family.

A unique gastronomic experience is also highlighted at the Wine Bar, a selection of the best wines from Bodegas Faustino accompanied by “platillos”, tapas designed by Mahercooks, the catering of renowned chef Enrique Martínez where sustainable values, innovation, creativity, and a careful selection of raw materials and seasonal dishes are shared with the Martínez Zabala Family.
